THE BENNY GOODMAN '38 CARNEGIE HALL CONCERT

The date was January 16th, 1938 when the Goodman Band appeared at Carnegie Hall, the first swing band to ever appear at that formerly classical only venue.

This album presents the complete concert, just as it was recorded that historic night with Gene Krupa, Harry James, Jess Stacy and singer Martha Tilton. The original one-of-a-kind recordings were not heard until 1950 when Benny Goodman's daughter Rachel discovered them in a closet. They were transferred to then new reel-to-reel tape, preserved for all time.

With digital technology, this concert sounds better than ever as presented on two high quality CDs. The ambience of the hall has been preserved along with the audience reaction and the dynamic performance of the musicians in what has become a key moment in musical history.

This set is the result of 18 months and 200 hours of studio work by Bjorn Alstedt to restore the warm sound of the original. It is, indeed, a classic restoration of the original seven decades old masters. It is a worthy addition to your library.
